Senate Study Bill 1030 - Introduced


An Act 1requesting the legislative council to
2establish an interim committee to study the creation
3of a facility to care for geriatric persons who are
4registered on the sex offender registry or who are
5sexually aggressive.
6WHEREAS, no geriatric facilities exist in Iowa to
7house persons on the sex offender registry or persons
8who are sexually aggressive;and
9WHEREAS, the lack of such a facility places other
10geriatric patients, residents, and tenants at risk for
11being sexually abused;and
12WHEREAS, the creation of a housing facility would
13better protect geriatric patients, residents, and
14tenants from sexual abuse by sex offenders or sexually
15aggressive persons;NOW THEREFORE,
   16BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the legislative
17council is requested to establish an interim study
18committee, composed of members of the senate and the
19house of representatives, to commence meeting during
20the 2017 interim as soon as practicable. The purpose
21of the interim committee is to study the creation
22of a new facility or expanding a current facility
23to care for geriatric persons who are registered
24on the sex offender registry or who are sexually
25aggressive; related workforce recruitment, training,
26and compensation issues; requirements that such a
27facility or facilities must meet in order to qualify
-1-1for Medicaid reimbursement; and any other information
2or issues deemed appropriate by the interim study
3committee, and to submit the interim study committee’s
4conclusions and recommendations in a report to the
5general assembly by January 1, 2018.
