5BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 279.77 Student identification cards
2— suicide prevention information.
3A public school that issues identification cards to students
4in grades seven through twelve shall include on either side of
5the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone and
6text numbers. A public school that issues identification cards
7to students in grades five and six may include on either side
8of the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone
9and text numbers.
10 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to student
11identification cards issued on or after the effective date
12of this Act. A school that has a supply of unused student
13identification cards shall use that supply prior to complying
14with the requirements of this Act relating to student
15identification cards.
16EXPLANATION
17The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
18the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
19This bill requires public schools to include on either side
20of identification cards issued to students in grades seven
21through twelve the your life Iowa crisis telephone and text
22numbers. The bill authorizes a public school that issues
23identification cards to students in grades five and six to do
24so as well.
25The bill applies to student identification cards issued on
26or after the effective date of the bill. A school that has a
27supply of unused student identification cards shall use that
28supply prior to complying with the requirements of the bill.
