House Study Bill 221 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to the requirements for a license to practice

3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 149.3, subsection 4, Code 2023, is
2amended by striking the subsection and inserting in lieu
3thereof the following:
   44.  Have successfully completed two years in a residency
5program approved by the council on podiatric medical education.
6As part of the initial license renewal, the licensee shall
7provide documentation showing completion of a residency program
8approved by the council on podiatric medical education. This
9subsection applies to all applicants who graduate from a
10school of podiatry on or after the effective date of this Act.
11The board shall adopt rules for the implementation of this
12subsection.
13EXPLANATION
14The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   16This bill requires an applicant for a license to practice
17podiatry to have completed two years in a residency program
18approved by the council on podiatric medical education. The
19bill also requires a licensee to provide documentation showing
20the completion of such a residency program at the time of the
21licensee’s first license renewal. This requirement applies to
22all applicants who graduate from a school of podiatry on or
23after the effective date of the bill. Under current law, an
24applicant must have completed a residency program as determined
25by the board of podiatry by rule.
