3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 282.18, subsection 8, paragraph b, Code
22023, is amended to read as follows:
3b. A receiving district may send school vehicles into the
4district of residence of the pupil using the open enrollment
5option under this section, for the purpose of transporting the
6pupil to and from school in the receiving district, if the
7boards of both the sending and receiving districts agree to
8this arrangement.
9EXPLANATION
10The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
11the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
12This bill relates to the transportation to and from school
13of pupils participating in open enrollment. Current law
14authorizes a receiving school district to send school vehicles
15into the district of residence of a pupil who open enrolls,
16for the purpose of transporting the pupil to and from school
17in the receiving school district, if the boards of directors
18of the sending school district and receiving school district
19agree to this arrangement. The bill strikes the requirement
20that the boards of directors of the sending school district and
21receiving school district agree to the arrangement.
