3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. Section 715A.1, Code 2023, is amended by adding
2the following new subsection:
3 NEW SUBSECTION. 2A. “Movie prop money” means a product
4produced by a company or corporation to represent authentic
5money for use by filmmakers, directors, or photographers for
6use in film or theatrical productions or in print media.
7 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 715A.6C Movie prop money.
8A person who, with the intent to defraud or injure anyone,
9utters movie prop money for the purpose of obtaining property
10or services, commits the following:
111. For property or services exceeding ten thousand dollars
12in value, a class “C” felony.
132. For property or services exceeding one thousand five
14hundred dollars in value but not exceeding ten thousand dollars
15in value, a class “D” felony.
163. For property or services exceeding seven hundred fifty
17dollars in value but not exceeding one thousand five hundred
18dollars in value, an aggravated misdemeanor.
194. For property or services exceeding three hundred dollars
20in value but not exceeding seven hundred fifty dollars in
21value, a serious misdemeanor.
225. For property or services not exceeding three hundred
23dollars in value, a simple misdemeanor.

25The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with

27This bill relates to forgery involving movie prop money, and
28provides penalties.
29The bill provides that a person who, with the intent to
30defraud or injure anyone, utters movie prop money for the
31purpose of obtaining property or services, commits an offense
32ranging from a simple misdemeanor to a class “C” felony
33depending on the value of the property or services.
34The bill defines “movie prop money” as a product produced by
35a company or corporation to represent authentic money for use
