2BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 642.5, subsection 2, Code 2023, is
2amended to read as follows:
   32.  The sheriff of the county where the action is being
4enforced, or the sheriff’s designee,
shall serve to the
5garnishee the notice of garnishment in the same manner as an
6original notice by personal service, certified mail service,
7first class mail, or electronic means. The recipient of the
8garnishment notice may return service in the same manner as the
9notice was received. The garnishee shall submit answers within
10twenty-one days of service.
11EXPLANATION
12The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
13the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   14This bill relates to service of garnishment notices.
15The bill provides that the sheriff of the county where the
16action is being enforced, or their designee, shall serve the
17garnishment notice. Under current law, which county sheriff
18shall serve the garnishment notice is not specified.
