Senate Resolution 104 - Introduced
An Act 1honoring the achievements and
2contributions of Gene Elliott.
3WHEREAS, Mr.Gene Elliott, a senior amateur golfer,
4is a resident of West Des Moines, Iowa, and an Iowa
5native, having been born in Fairfield, Iowa;and
6WHEREAS, the State of Iowa has an unparalleled
7interest in the game of golf, as evidenced by having
8more golf courses per capita than any other state, and
9the most nine-hole golf courses in the nation;and
10WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has distinguished himself
11as being the top-ranked senior amateur golfer in
12the United States and in the world as of January 14,
132022;and
14WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott accomplished a feat only
15achieved by two other individuals in the history of
16golf by winning the Canadian Senior Amateur in 2020,
17the British Senior Amateur Championship in 2021, and
18the United States Senior Amateur in 2021;and
19WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has won dozens of other state
20and national golf tournaments;and
21WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott was recently recognized in the
22national publication “Golfweek” and named the 2021
23Yancey Ford Award winner for significant contributions
24to senior amateur golf;and
25WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has been a great ambassador
26for the State of Iowa and the United States, playing
27nationally and internationally and gaining the respect
28of golfers throughout the world;and
-1-1WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has had an impact well beyond
2the Hawkeye State and developed friendships throughout
3the world of golf;and
4WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott was inducted into the Iowa Golf
5Association Hall of Fame in 2012;and
6WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has been a role model for
7thousands of golfers throughout the State of Iowa
8and the United States by conducting himself in a
9gentlemanly manner with civility during national and
10international competitions;and
11WHEREAS, Mr.Elliott has promoted the game of
12golf on a state, national, and international level
13encouraging youth to play by the rules and be civil
14while in competition;NOW THEREFORE,
15BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
16recognizes and honors Mr.Gene Elliott for his numerous
17accomplishments while promoting the game of golf, for
18emphasizing civility and the importance of playing by
19the rules, and for being an ambassador for the State of
20Iowa throughout the United States and the world;and
21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of this
22resolution the Secretary of the Senate shall provide a
23copy of this resolution to Mr.Elliott.
