House Resolution 18 - Introduced










An Act 1recognizing Iowa’s commitment to private
2property rights, to the Iowans employed in the
3livestock industry, and the threat that socialism
4poses to the rights of Iowans to make their own
5choices free from government coercion regarding the
6production of livestock and the consumption of food
7including meat.
8WHEREAS, the House of Representatives wholly
9supports the goals of rising wages, competitive
10business practices, and healthy Iowa-grown food;and
11WHEREAS, the House of Representatives affirms every
12Iowan’s right to decide for themselves what kinds of
13food they wish to consume;and
14WHEREAS, the House of Representatives considers
15an economic system based on entrepreneurship, free
16exchange, and individual freedom as the best way for
17Iowans to raise their own standard of living;and
18WHEREAS, the House of Representatives steadfastly
19opposes plans to scapegoat the livestock industry in
-1-1the debate over climate change;and
2WHEREAS, the House of Representatives firmly opposes
3any plans to negatively impact Iowans engaged in
4the production of livestock on farms and any plans
5to negatively impact Iowans employed directly or
6indirectly in Iowa’s livestock industry;and
7WHEREAS, the House of Representatives supports
8Iowans employed in the field of livestock production
9and recognizes their commitment to the state and to
10their communities;and
11WHEREAS, the House of Representatives opposes the
12collectivism and socialism inherent in certain federal
13economic plans presented for consideration by the
14United States Congress;and
15WHEREAS, the House of Representatives remains
16committed to our system of free market capitalism which
17remains a better avenue for achieving success than
18Soviet-style central economic planning;and
19WHEREAS, the House of Representatives opposes
20government micromanagement of the private lives of
21Iowans through government-approved and controlled
22policies that dictate lifestyle choices;NOW THEREFORE,
      23BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
24That the House of Representatives opposes policies
25that coerce Iowans into making decisions that
26are against their economic self-interest, are
27economically destructive to Iowa’s small towns, and
28that deliberately invade Iowans’ basic individual
29decision-making freedom; and
   30BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF

2opposes state control of personal decision making, and
3associated policies that coerce Iowans into making
4decisions that restrict livestock production and the
5types of meat that Iowans choose to consume.
