House Resolution 17 - Introduced

An Act 1urging the United States Congress to
2oppose efforts to expand the Supreme Court of the
3United States.
4WHEREAS, the House of Representatives strongly
5endorses the principle that the Supreme Court of the
6United States should be composed of nine justices;and
7WHEREAS, the House of Representatives expressly
8rejects efforts to “pack the court”;and
9WHEREAS, the House of Representatives recognizes the
10millions of Iowans who support an independent Supreme
11Court free from the partisan influences of the United
12States Congress;and
13WHEREAS, the House of Representatives believes that
14any plans to increase the number of justices on the
15Supreme Court are shortsighted, dishonest, and will
16ultimately undermine the credibility of the Supreme
17Court;NOW THEREFORE,
18BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That
19the House of Representatives urges the members of the
-1-1United States Congress to firmly oppose any plan to
2expand the Supreme Court of the United States beyond
3nine justices; and
4BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of
5this resolution, the Chief Clerk of the House of
6Representatives shall transmit copies of this
7resolution to the members of Iowa’s Congressional
8delegation.
