3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 331.662 Social workers in office
2of county sheriff.
3A county sheriff shall, by July 1, 2023, employ at least
4one social worker licensed pursuant to chapter 154C for every
5fifteen deputy sheriffs employed by the county sheriff.
6 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 362.10A Social workers in municipal
7police departments.
8A municipal police department shall, by July 1, 2023, employ
9at least one social worker licensed pursuant to chapter 154C
10for every fifteen police officers employed by the municipal
11police department.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with

15This bill relates to the employment of social workers by
16county sheriffs and municipal police departments.
17The bill provides that a county sheriff shall employ at
18least one licensed social worker for every 15 deputy sheriffs
19employed by the county sheriff.
20The bill provides that a municipal police department shall
21employ at least one licensed social worker for every 15 police
22officers employed by the municipal police department.
23The requirements for employing licensed social workers must
24be complied with by July 1, 2023.
