CHAPTER 1082Medical residency training state matching grants program — rural rotation opportunity — fields of practiceH.F. 2197AN ACT relating to the medical residency training state matching grants program rural rotation requirement.Be It Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Iowa:   Section 1.   Section 135.176, subsection 2, paragraph g, Code 2020, is amended to read as follows:   g.  A requirement that the residency program offer persons to whom a primary care, including psychiatry, residency position is awarded, the opportunity to participate in a rural rotation to expose the resident to the rural areas of the state.For the purposes of this paragraph, “primary care” shall include psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, family medicine, internal medicine, and emergency medicine.    Sec. 2.   2019 Iowa Acts, chapter 55, section 3, subsection 1, is amended to read as follows:   1.  The university of Iowa hospitals and clinics shall give priority in awarding federal residency positions as established under the federal Balanced Budget Act of 1997, Pub.L. No.105-33, to applicants who are residents of Iowa, attended and earned an undergraduate degree from an Iowa college or university, or attended and earned a medical degree from a medical school in Iowa. The university of Iowa hospitals and clinics shall also provide persons to whom a primary care, including psychiatry, residency position is awarded, the opportunity to participate in a rural rotation to expose the resident to rural areas of the state.For the purposes of this subsection, “primary care” shall include psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, family medicine, internal medicine, and emergency medicine.Approved June 25, 2020
