4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  POLLINATOR STUDY.  The department of natural
2resources shall conduct a one-year study of pollinator
3species on property managed by the department. The study
4shall take place at numerous sites managed by the department
5through all geographic sectors of the state as determined
6by the department. The study shall examine factors that
7attract pollinator species and methods to encourage the
8continued existence or reemergence of pollinator species on
9property owned by the department. For purposes of this study,
10“pollinator species” shall include but not be limited to any
11species of bird, bee, butterfly, bat, or other animal known to
12naturally perform pollination activities. The department shall
13submit a report to the general assembly detailing its findings
14and recommendations by December 31, 2021.
15EXPLANATION
16The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
17the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   18This bill requires the department of natural resources to
19conduct a study investigating factors that attract pollinator
20species and methods to encourage the continued existence or
21reemergence of pollinator species on properties managed by the
22department of natural resources. The study shall be conducted
23for one year and take place at numerous sites managed by the
24department through all geographic sectors of the state as
25determined by the department. The department shall submit
26a report of its findings and recommendations to the general
27assembly by December 31, 2021.
