Senate Resolution 12 - Introduced

An Act 1designating March 2019 as Iowa Women’s
2History Month.
3WHEREAS, Iowa women of every race, class, and
4ethnic background have made historic contributions
5to the growth and strength of our State and nation
6in countless recorded and unrecorded ways, including
7through the struggle for women’s rights;and
8WHEREAS, Iowa women have played and continue to
9play critical economic, cultural, and social roles by
10constituting a significant portion of the labor force
11working inside and outside of the home;and
12WHEREAS, Iowa women were particularly important in
13the establishment of early charitable, philanthropic,
14and cultural institutions in our State and nation;and
15WHEREAS, Iowa women and men amended the Iowa
16Constitution to read that “All men and women are, by
17nature, free and equal, and have certain inalienable
18rights”;and
19WHEREAS, Iowa women have been leaders in business,
20industry, and academia as well as the abolitionist
21movement, the emancipation movement, the industrial
22labor movement, the civil rights movement, the peace
23movement, and the women’s suffrage movement, which
24have created a more fair and just society for all
25people;NOW THEREFORE,
      26BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
27designates March 2019 as Iowa Women’s History Month and
28invites the citizens of Iowa to continue to uncover,

2throughout history.
