House Resolution 12 - Introduced

An Act 1honoring and congratulating Stephen M.
2Lacy upon his retirement as Executive Chairman of
3Meredith Corporation.
4WHEREAS, Stephen M. Lacy joined Des Moines-based
5Meredith Corporation as Chief Financial Officer in
61998 and soon advanced into an operating role at
7the company, heading its digital, broadcasting, and
8publishing groups;and
9WHEREAS, Mr.Lacy was named President and Chief
10Executive Officer of Meredith Corporation in 2006,
11became Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2009, and
12has served as Executive Chairman of the company since
13January of 2018;and
14WHEREAS, under Mr.Lacy’s leadership, Meredith
15Corporation acquired many familiar national media
16brands such as Allrecipes, SHAPE, and Martha Stewart
17Living, and rapidly expanded its brand licensing and
18marketing services activities;and
19WHEREAS, during Mr.Lacy’s 21-year tenure at
20Meredith Corporation, the company’s revenues doubled
21and profits more than tripled;and
22WHEREAS, Mr.Lacy spearheaded Meredith Corporation’s
23acquisition of Time Inc., transforming the company
24into a media powerhouse with the leading media brands
25in the pop culture, celebrity and entertainment,
26food, fashion, lifestyle, news, business and finance,
27and sports content areas with 60 million active
28subscribers, and a top 10 digital industry player with
-1-1170 million visitors each month;and
2WHEREAS, Mr.Lacy was instrumental in establishing
3Meredith Corporation as the nation’s foremost
4multiplatform media and marketing services company,
5reaching nearly 200 million American consumers each
6month, including over 80 percent of U.S. millennial
7women;and
8WHEREAS, throughout his time at Meredith
9Corporation, Mr.Lacy actively promoted Iowa as a
10leading state for business and committed to maintaining
11the company’s corporate headquarters in Des Moines, the
12birthplace of Meredith Corporation’s Successful Farming
13magazine;and
14WHEREAS, Mr.Lacy has extensively given back to
15the local community, serving as board chairman or in
16another leadership capacity for United Way of Central
17Iowa, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the Community
18Foundation of Greater Des Moines, the Des Moines
19Redevelopment Corporation, the Greater Des Moines
20Leadership Institute, Junior Achievement, the American
21Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Easter Seals, and
22the Dowling Catholic High School Foundation;and
23WHEREAS, upon his retirement from Meredith
24Corporation as Executive Chairman, Mr.Lacy will
25continue to serve the company in a nonexecutive
26capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors;NOW
27THEREFORE,
   28BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That
29the House of Representatives congratulates Stephen
30M. Lacy upon his retirement as Executive Chairman of

2him for his outstanding contributions to the state of
3Iowa, his devotion to the local community, and his
4exceptional leadership of Meredith Corporation.
