4funding of abortion.
   5BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
2the State of Iowa is proposed:
   3Article I of the Constitution of the State of Iowa is amended
4by adding the following new section:
   5Sec.26.  No right to abortion or required funding of
6abortion.
  The Constitution of the State of Iowa does not
7secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding
8of abortion.
9   Sec. 2.REFERRAL AND PUBLICATION.   The foregoing amendment
10to the Constitution of the State of Iowa is referred to the
11general assembly to be chosen at the next general election for
12members of the general assembly, and shall be published as
13provided by law for three consecutive months previous to the
14date of that election.
15EXPLANATION
16The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
17the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   18This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the
19Constitution of the State of Iowa specifying that the
20Constitution of the State of Iowa does not secure or protect a
21right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.
   22The joint resolution, if adopted, would be referred to the
23next general assembly for adoption a second time before being
24submitted to the electorate for ratification.
