3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 314.31 Iowa patriots memorial
2highway.
3The segment of the highway known as United States highway
420 which crosses this state from Sioux City to Dubuque shall
5be designated as the “Iowa Patriots Memorial Highway”. The
6department may erect signs on or adjacent to the highway
7indicating the designation.
8 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to the segment
9of the highway known as United States highway 20 described in
10this Act on the effective date of this Act, and shall apply to
11the segment of that highway thereafter regardless of whether
12the highway’s designation as United States highway 20 is
13subsequently changed by the government of the United States.
14EXPLANATION
15The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
16the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
17This bill designates the segment of U.S.highway 20 which
18crosses the state from Sioux City to Dubuque as the “Iowa
19Patriots Memorial Highway”, and authorizes the department of
20transportation to erect signs on or adjacent to the highway
21indicating the designation. The bill applies to the segment of
22U.S.highway 20 on the effective date of the bill, and applies
23to the segment thereafter regardless of whether the highway’s
24designation as U.S.highway 20 is subsequently changed by the
25federal government.
