4BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 135B.35 Pediatric congenital heart
2surgery — public reporting of data — patient education.
3A hospital licensed under this chapter that provides
4pediatric congenital heart surgery shall do all of the
5following:
61. Participate in a qualified clinical data registry for
7thoracic surgery by providing all pediatric congenital heart
8surgery data required and consenting to public reporting of the
9data shared.
102. Provide information regarding how to access the national
11information provided in the qualified clinical data registry
12for thoracic surgery during an educational consultation with
13a parent or legal guardian of a pediatric patient for whom a
14congenital heart surgery procedure is recommended.
15EXPLANATION
16The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
17the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
18This bill requires a licensed hospital that provides
19pediatric congenital heart surgery to participate in a
20qualified clinical data registry (QCDR) for thoracic surgery by
21providing all pediatric congenital heart surgery data required
22and consenting to public reporting of the data shared; and
23to provide information regarding how to access the national
24information provided in the QCDR for thoracic surgery during an
25educational consultation with a parent or legal guardian of a
26pediatric patient for whom a congenital heart surgery procedure
27is recommended.
