House Study Bill 83 - IntroducedA Bill ForAn Act 1relating to continuing education requirements for
2certain professions.
3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  Section 154C.3, subsection 3, Code 2019, is
2amended to read as follows:
   33.  License renewal and continuing education.  Licenses
4shall be renewed biennially, and licensees shall pay a fee for
5renewal as determined by the board and shall present evidence
6satisfactory to the board that the licensee has satisfied
7continuing education requirements as determined by the board.
 8The board shall not limit the number of continuing education
9credits that may be obtained online in satisfying continuing
10education requirements.

11   Sec. 2.  Section 154D.3, subsection 1, paragraph e, Code
122019, is amended to read as follows:
   13e.  Educational activities which fulfill continuing education
14requirements for license renewals. The board shall not limit
15the number of continuing education credits that may be obtained
16online by marital and family therapists or mental health
17counselors in fulfilling continuing education requirements.

18EXPLANATION
19The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
20the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   21This bill relates to continuing education requirements for
22licensed social workers, marital and family therapists, and
23mental health counselors. The bill prohibits the board of
24social work from limiting the number of continuing education
25credits that social workers may obtain online and the board
26of behavioral science from limiting the number of continuing
27education credits that marital and family therapists and mental
28health counselors may obtain online.
