4funding of abortion.
   5BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
2the State of Iowa is proposed:
   3Article I of the Constitution of the State of Iowa is amended
4by adding the following new section:
   5Sec.26.  No right to abortion or required funding of
6abortion.
  The Constitution of the State of Iowa does not
7secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding
8of abortion.
9   Sec. 2.REFERRAL AND PUBLICATION.   The foregoing amendment
10to the Constitution of the State of Iowa is referred to the
11general assembly to be chosen at the next general election
12for members of the general assembly, and the secretary of
13state is directed to cause the same to be published for three
14consecutive months previous to the date of that election as
15provided by law.
16EXPLANATION
17The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
18the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   19This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the
20Constitution of the State of Iowa specifying that the
21Constitution of the State of Iowa does not secure or protect a
22right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.
   23The joint resolution, if adopted, would be referred to the
24next general assembly for adoption a second time before being
25submitted to the electorate for ratification.
