2BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1 Section 1. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES — CHILD CARE
2CENTER STAFF RATIO RULES. The department of human services
3shall amend its administrative rules pursuant to chapter
417A to provide that child care centers maintain a minimum
5child-to-staff ratio of one child care worker for every eight
6children who are two years of age and a minimum child-to-staff
7ratio of one child care worker for every ten children who are
8three years of age.
9EXPLANATION
10The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
11the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
12This bill relates to child care center staff ratios.
13The bill directs the department of human services to amend
14its rules so that child care centers maintain a minimum
15child-to-staff ratio of 1 child care worker for every 8
16children who are 2 years of age and 1 child care worker for
17every 10 children who are 3 years of age.
