Born circa 1816; his place of birth is unknown. He was among the first attorneys to practice in Van Buren County, arriving sometime after November 1838. He represented Van Buren County in the House of Representatives of the Fourth Legislative Assembly of the Iowa Territory from 1841 to 1842. He was an honest man, and in his death the state lost a citizen of rare ability, the profession a sound lawyer, and society one of big heart, and, if eccentric, as able as eccentric. He died October 31, 1843, in Keosauqua, Iowa.
