Associate professor of economics at Iowa State University. Born in St. Paul, MN, raised in Mahtomedi, MN and Brookfield, WI. Resides in Ames. Graduated from Central High School in Brookfield, WI. Received B.A. with honors in government from Harvard and M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University. Represents the 4th Ward of Ames and Ames Mayor Pro Tern 2002. Served as treasurer on Story County Democratic Central Committee. Serves on Board of Directors of the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mayor's VEISHEA Task Force, and Story County REAP Committee. Member of Ames Chamber of Commerce Quality Council, Kiwanis Club of Ames, Ames Patriotic Council, Ames League of Women Voters, Ames Utility Retirement Board, and Ames Tobacco Task Force. Served as co-chair of Veterans Memorial Committee and Leadership Ames graduate. Serving first term in Senate.
