Member of National Conference of State Legislatures Executive Committee, Council of State Governments Executive Committee, board of directors Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, and Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Served in U.S. Army. Wife Phyllis Peterson; one son, one daughter, and six grandchildren. Served five terms in House. Serving sixth term in Senate.
