Born about 1801. Mr. Hotchkiss, of Waterbury, and Eunice Durand married December 31, 1820, in Cheshire, Connecticut. They had 5 children. In 1832, the family moved to Portage County, Ohio. The family came to Iowa in 1849, and located on a farm near Bloomfield, in Davis County. Mr. Hotchkiss was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives for the 8th General Assembly (1860-1861). His son Loyal Durand Hotchkiss served five terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. His great grandson was Loyal Durand “L.D.” Hotchkiss who was an American newspaper journalist who served as the editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times.
