Amos W. Hoag
Winneshiek County
Amos Hoag was born in Starksboro, Addison County, Vermont, on May 17, 1805, to Elihu Hoag and Dorcas Powell. Amos married Persis Hallock on June 5, 1830; she died September 8, 1830. Amos married a second time to Emeline Webb Power on October 21, 1831, in Lenawee County, Michigan; they had 10 children. In 1857 Amos Hoag was elected coroner of Winneshiek County. In 1867 the family moved to Jasper County, near Carthage, Missouri, where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Society of Friends. He was a highly respected citizen always having taken a prominent part in public affairs. He died June 3, 1896.
