Born on November 17, 1817, in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Haskell when an infant came to Ohio with his parents. In 1849, he came to Iowa and settled on his farm in Marion County. Mr. Haskell married Miss Mary J. Gillem on June 18, 1840, and they had two children. She died in 1845. His second marriage was to Angelina Bay on August 21, 1848, and they had seven children. In 1859, Mr. Haskell was elected to the Legislature; served two sessions, and was re-elected in 1874. While a member of the Legislature he was Township Treasurer. He was a Greenbacker in politics and a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Haskell died on March 14, 1899, and was buried in Albia, Iowa.
