Retired school social worker. Born in George, raised in Pocahontas, and resides in Mount Vernon. Graduated from Pocahontas High School. Received B.A. from Wartburg College and M.S.W. from the University of Iowa. Served on Marion Independent School Board. Member of Iowa Mental Health Planning Council, Iowa State Education Association, Iowa Tobacco Use Prevention Commission, Iowa State Community Empowerment Board, American Federation of Teachers, and National Association of Social Workers. Wife Susan Salter; two sons, three daughters and eight grandchildren. Serving third term in House.
