Mary Adelaide Lundby

Mary A. Lundby was born February 2, 1948 in Carroll, Iowa to Elizabeth and Edward Hoehl. She passed away on January 17, 2009 at the age of 60. She is survived by her husband Michael; her son, Daniel Lundby of New York City; her mother, Elizabeth Hoehl; her sisters, Margaret Hoehl, Susan Hoehl and Paula Jensen; her brother, David Hoehl; and her mother-in-law, Mildred Lundby as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lundby graduated from Carroll Kuemper Catholic High School. In 1971 she graduated from Upper Iowa University majoring in Political Science and History.

Lundby was united in marriage to Michael at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. They made their home in Marion, where they raised their son, Daniel.

Lundby was elected to the House of Representatives in 1987. She served as Speaker pro Tempore from 1992–1994. She was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1995 serving as Minority Leader from 2006-2007 and as Co-Majority Leader in 2006.

Lundby served on several committees in the Iowa Senate–the Government Oversight committee; the Natural Resources and Environment committee; and the Rules and Administration committee.

Lundby also served as the co-chair of the Linn county Republican party, as a member of the Linn County Republican Central Committee, and as staff assistant to then senator Roger Jepsen prior to her election to the Iowa House of Representatives.

Lundby was an advocate for issues concerning children, families, the environment and conservation. She loved being a legislator and was happy to have been given the privilege of serving the people of Marion, Linn County and the state of Iowa.

Lundby was a Linn County Republican. She served in the 72nd, 72nd X, 72nd XX, 73rd, 74th, 74th X, 74th XX, 75th, 76th, 77th, 78th, 79th, 79th X, 79th XX, 79th XXX, 79th XXXX, 80th, 80th X, 80th XX, 81st, 81st X, and 82nd General Assemblies.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE EIGHTY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF IOWA: That in the passing of the Honorable Mary A. Lundby, the State has lost an honored citizen and faithful and useful public servant, and that the Senate by this resolution expresses its appreciation of her service to the State and tenders its sympathy and kindest regards to the members of her family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the Senate and that the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
