Born in Ireland, in 1801. He came to the United States in 1804, with his family, and settled with them in Lancaster County, Pa. Afterward they removed to Beaver county, where they resided until 1851, when he came to Scott county, Iowa, and purchased the farm on which he resided until his death. He was united with the Methodist Episcopal Church about 1825. He represented Scott county in the Seventh General Assembly, and was noted for candor and adherence to principle. In politics, Mr. Scott was an old fashion abolitionist. He represented his township for several years in the Board of Supervisors and a township trustee.
