Born January 6, 1820, in Adams County, Pennsylvania. He came to Keokuk county with his parents before Iowa was admitted into the union of states. His father located near Manhattan, in the early 50's. Mr. McGrew was united in marriage with Miss Jane Gilliland on April 11, 1844, in Wapello County, Iowa. He was elected to represent Keokuk county in the Seventh General Assembly, 1858. He was a farmer by trade.
