Lauren Dewey
Henry County
Born in 1803 and died in 1868. Mr. Dewey lived in Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa from 1852 until his death and is buried there. In December, 1833 he bought and became the editor of the Ohio Star office in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio. In 1835 he married at Revenna, Ohio to Mary G. DeWolf, daughter of Dr. Joseph Dewolf. They had four children: Henry D. W.; William W.; Mary L.; and Emily. He served as the warden of the Ohio Penitentiary. He was a prominent member of the 7th General Assembly of Iowa (1858-1860). He enlisted on March 9, 1862 as Major. He was commissioned an officer in Company S, Iowa 30th Infantry Regiment on 24 September 1862, and mustered out on March 12, 1863. He was nominated for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa in 1862 by the Democratic Party.
