Born in Kentucky on December 15, 1815, he was the son of Col. Green Casey and Jane Patterson. He married Mildred Creel on July 1, 1847 in Lee County, Iowa. They had 3 children. The Green Casey family moved from Kentucky to Illinois in the 1830s. In 1836 Green Casey bought a claim and built a cabin adjoining West Point, Iowa. In May, 1838 they moved from Illinois to West Point. Mr. Casey was Superintendent of Judges of Agricultural Implements for the Lee County, Iowa Fair in 1857. He was elected to the Iowa State House in 1858. His brother Joseph M. became one of the prominent attorneys of Southeastern Iowa and served with distinction as judge of the District Court. John Allen Casey died in 1882.
