Mr. Buchanan, from the committee to draft resolutions of respect commemorating the life and work of the Hon. Theron A. Morgan, of Ottumwa, Iowa, offered the following resolution and moved the adoption of the same:

MR. SPEAKER — Your committee appointed to draft resolutions of condolence on the death of Hon. Theron A. Morgan, late of Ottumwa, beg leave to report that they have prepared the following preamble and resolutions:

Whereas, The Hon. Theron A. Morgan, late of Ottumwa and formerly a member of the Seventh General Assembly and Eleventh General Assembly, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Griswold in Ottumwa, Iowa, February 4, 1900, at the age of 91 years,

Whereas, The life and character of deceased are worthy of recognition, therefore

Resolved, That in the death of Theron A. Morgan the state has lost an able, conscientious citizen, a man whose private character was above reproach, and who rendered conspicuous service to his state while a member of this body.

Resolved, That this resolution be entered on the Journal of the House, and that the Secretary of the House be instructed to present an engrossed copy thereof to his daughter, Mrs. George Griswold.
