Born July 18, 1938, in Boone. Son of Virgil and Bessie Byerly. Wife, Pamela Mary. Graduated Boone High School, 1956. A.A., Boone Junior College, 1958. B.A. in mathematics, Simpson College, 1960. M.S. and Ph.D., Iowa State University, 1967-70. Worked out of Congressman Neal Smith's office. Fifth term. Five children. Employed as a Des Moines Area Community College administrator. High school teacher and coach, 1961-67. Selected to Community College National Internship experience in 1971. Received Iowa Jaycees' Outstanding Young Iowan Award, 1975. Author and free lance writer.
