J.D.. University of Iowa College of Law, 1968. Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, 1962-65. Married Robin Ruhe; sons: David and Peter. Former executive assistant to Gov. Robert D. Ray, 1970-72. Private law practice in Ames since 1972. Member Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Kappa Phi and Order of the Coif. Unitarian. Third term.
