Born March 22, 1939, in Ames, son of William and Mildred Murray. Graduated Ames High School, 1957. B.A., Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., 1961. M.A., Columbia University in New York, N.Y., 1962. J.D.. University of Iowa College of Law, 1968. Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, 1962-65. Married Robin Ruhe; sons: David and Peter. Former executive assistant to Gov. Robert D. Ray, 1970-72. Private law practice in Ames since 1972. Member Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Kappa Phi and Order of the Coif. Unitarian. Third term.
