In World War II as Naval Lieutenant three years. Henderson city councilman 1950-54,1964-66. Henderson City Mayor 1976. State Representative 1955-57, 1967-73,1977-. State Senator 1957-61. Iowa House Speaker 1969-73. Iowa House Speaker Pro-Tempore 1979-. Iowa House Chief Clerk 1973-74. State Heart Fund Chairman 1976-77. Board member, National Gasohol Commission. Board member, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Des Moines. Member: United Methodist Church, American Legion, Elks, Farm Bureau, Masons, and Henderson Fire Department. Eighth term.
