Ankeny District 61 Democrat Born July 18, 1938, in Boone, son of Virgil and Bessie Byerly. Graduated Boone High School, 1956 and Boone Junior College, 1958. B.A., Simpson College, 1960. Married Elna Reedholm, 1959. Two daughters, two sons. Teacher and coach at Gilbert, 1961-67. Free lance writer. Research Fellowship, M.S. and Ph.D., Iowa State University 1967-70. Administrator Des Moines Area Community College. Selected to community college congressional internship experience in Washington, D.C. Worked out of Congressman Neal Smith's office 1971. Member: Faith United Methodist Church, Polk County Farm Bureau, Masons, and Ankeny Jaycees. Third term.
