Cedar Rapids 13th Senatorial District Democrat Born Nov. 10, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa. Moved to Cedar Rapids early 1943. Graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School 1960. Attended undergraduate college, Iowa State University and Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.). B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Northwestern University 1965. Active duty as Naval Reserve Officer in U.S. Navy, 1965-1968. J.D. College of Law, University of Iowa 1971. Law clerk, Iowa Supreme Court 1971-72. Assistant city attorney, city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 1972-1975. Served on Senate Committees of: Cities, Labor and Industrial Relations, State Government, and ranking member of Judiciary Committee. Married Judith Whetstine of Wilton, Iowa, 1971. First term.
