Ankeny District 61 Democrat Born July 18, 1938, in Boone, Iowa, son of Virgil and Bessie Byerly. Graduated Boone High School 1956 and Boone Junior College 1958. B.A., Simpson College 1960. Married Elna Reedholm of Boone, 1959. Two daughters, two sons. Teacher and coach Gilbert, Iowa, 1961-67. Free lance writer. Research Fellowship, M.S. and Ph.D., Iowa State University 1967-70. Administrator Des Moines Area Community College. Selected to community college congressional internship experience in Washington, D.C. Worked out of Congressman Neal Smith's office 1971. Member Faith United Methodist Church, Polk County Farm Bureau, Masons, and Ankeny Jaycees. Second term.
