WILLIS E. JUNKER

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Willis E. Junker, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mr. Junker was born July 26, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Nancy Chittenden in 1973; they had one daughter and one son.

Mr. Junker graduated from Central High School and received a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University in 1950. After serving in the Army during World War II, Mr. Junker took a position as a research engineer for North American Aviation Corporation in Columbus, Ohio. In 1966, he returned to Sioux City and was a self-employed private investor.

Mr. Junker was a member of the Republican Party and served in the House of Representatives from 1973 to 1979.

A talented musician and composer, Mr. Junker was a 38-year member of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra where he played viola. His civic involvement included the Museum Association Board where he was a past vice-president, member of the Sioux City Council from 1970-1972, and membership at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Willis Junker died on April 29, 1998, in a Sioux City hospital after being stricken unexpectedly at his home. He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Julie Junker. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Clive; son, Stephen of Ames; and other relatives.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-eighth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Willis E. Junker, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
