ROY A. MILLER

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Roy A. Miller, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mr. Miller was born August 26, 1903. He married Ruth A. Peck of Olin, Iowa; they had three daughters.

Mr. Miller was educated in the Stanwood schools and the Cedar Rapids Business College. Roy and Ruth A. Peck were married June 23, 1927. He farmed near Onslow from 1927 until 1931. Mr. Miller operated farm equipment and motor truck stores for 30 years with dealerships in Earlville, Manchester, Ryan, Independence, and Monticello. He retired from the implement business in 1962. Roy was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Monticello, the Burns Masonic Lodge, the El Kahir Shrine, the Acacia Chapter & Schreiner Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He served nine years on the Monticello City Council, the Senior Housing Board, the Implement Dealers Association, and as President of the Residents Council at Methwick.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Republican Party and served as State Representative for three terms, the 60th, 62nd, and 63rd General Assemblies.

Roy Miller died on October 26, 1998, at the Methwick Retirement Community in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his children, Marilyn of Monticello; Linda of Manchester; Carol of Arlington, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-eighth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Roy A. Miller, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
