HAROLD L. KNIGHT

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Harold L. Knight, begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Mr. Knight was born February 10, 1911, the son of Charles D. and Mary Craven Knight, in Ames, Iowa. He was united in marriage on April 7, 1932 to Fern Bennett, to which union were born three sons.

After graduation from Iowa State University in 1937 as a Dairy Bacteriologist, he moved to Des Moines where he worked for Anderson-Erickson as a cottage cheese maker. In 1947 he moved to Humboldt, Iowa, where he established his own cottage cheese business called Knight’s Cottage Cheese.

He was a member of the Methodist Church; past president of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce; a former director of the First National Bank of Humboldt; and an active Mason, having been a member of the Red Cross of Constantine, the Knight Commander Court of Honor, the Honorary Legion of Honor, the Royal Order of Scotland, and the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine. He was listed in Who’s Who in Commerce and Industry, as well as Who’s Who in the Midwest.

A Republican, Mr. Knight represented Humboldt and Pocahontas Counties in the Sixty-second and Sixty-third General Assemblies of the State of Iowa.

Mr. Knight moved to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, in 1974 and died July 19, 1982 in Calico Rock, Arkansas. He is survived by his widow, Fern, of Humboldt, Iowa; sons Ray L. of Humboldt, Iowa, Dean L. of Washington, Iowa, and Kent L. of West Columbia, South Carolina; brother, Don, of Richardson, Texas; sister, Mrs. Gladys Spearing, Manly, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventieth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Harold L. Knight, the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his service.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
