Des Moines Polk County Democrat Born in Des Moines, Iowa, January 23, 1930, the son of Ralph and Helen Tapscott. Attended grade school in Des Moines, Christian Brothers School in San Francisco, Calif., and Dowling High School, Des Moines, graduated 1948. Attended American Institute of Business. Governmental Training in Public, Human and Industrial Relations, Denver, Colorado, and Washington, D.C, 1964-66. Married Verlene Quail of Des Moines, Feb. 19, 1950. Six living children, Kathleen, Mark, Matthew, Luke, Melissa, and Patrick. Two children deceased, John, Jr., and Mary Margaret. Engaged in Real Estate and Insurance business with Diversified Brokerage Services in Des Moines, Iowa, former Advertising Manager for Catholic Mirror Newspaper, also served as an assistant to the regional director, U.S. Post Office Department, Saint Louis, Mo. Member of Dowling Club, Concerned Christians, Big Brothers, National Rehabilitation Assn., and Christ the King Catholic Church. Serving second term.
