Graduated from Clarinda High School in 1948 and attended Drake University. Married to C. F. Franklin. Mother of three children. Board member of Polk County Community Action Council; Greater Opportunities, Inc.; Des Moines Chapter of N.A.A.C.P.; State Commission of the Aging. Secretary of the National Conference of Black Elected Officials, national board member of Americans for Democratic Action; member of Puella Legatoes Social Club; John F. Kennedy Democratic Club; Polk County Democratic Women's Activities; National Society of State Legislators; Des Moines Mayor's Task Force on Housing; Member of blue-ribbon committee to revise rules of the Democratic Party; Elected Assistant Minority Leader (Whip) for 63rd General Assembly. Attends Catholic Church; serving second term.
