New London Henry County Republican Born 1901, near Danville, Iowa, the son of Charles and Parma (Oberman) Strothman. Graduated from Burlington High School, awarded scholarship to Iowa State University. Married Doris Maxwell 1929. Six children: Carol Messer, Charlotte Young, Charlene Larson, Charles M., Frederic and John. Seventeen grandchildren. In farming, livestock feeding, and breeding of registered Polled Hereford cattle with sons Frederic and John and son-in-law, Emmet Messer. Served as president of school board. New London Farmers Coop., County Farm Bureau and County 4-H Club committee. Served on bank, church and livestock boards and as Republican precinct and congressional committeeman. Now president of Southeast Iowa Hereford Association, Southeast Iowa Polled Hereford Association, and Henry County Livestock Feeders. Member of Farm Bureau, American and American Polled Hereford Associations, and Iowa Beef Producers. Methodist. Served in the 60th, 60th Extra, 61st, 62nd, and 63rd General Assemblies.
