Educated in the public schools of Cedar Falls and attended State College of Iowa. Graduated from Arizona State University, 1950, B.S. in Psychology, Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance. Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, 1950. Branch manager for Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. Married Dee Ann Delaney of Davenport: Six children, Jeffrey, Ann Marie, Craig, Linda, Deborah, Coy. Served as World War II paratrooper with 82nd Airborne Division. National Vice President of Reserve Officers Association 1958-59. Traveled the South Pacific, Orient, Far East and Alaska, visiting the Military bases of the U.S. and Allies. Member Lutheran Church, Kaaba Shrine, Izaac Walton League, Scott County Retarded Children's Association, Farm Bureau, Dad's Association, University of Iowa, National Association of Life Underwriters, General Agents and Managers Association. Former chairman of Scott County Young Republicans and chairman of Republican Party of Davenport in 1961. Serving first term in Senate.
