New London Henry County Republican. Born 1901, near Danville, Iowa, the son of Charles and Parma (Oberman) Strothman. Graduated from Burlington High School, awarded scholarship to Iowa State University. Married Doris Maxwell, 1929. Six children: Carol Messer, Charlotte Young, Charlene Larson, Charles M., Frederic and John. Sixteen grandchildren. Engaged in farming, livestock feeding and breeding of registered Polled Hereford cattle with sons Frederic and John and son-in-law, Emmet Messer. Served as president of school board, New London Farmers Coop., County Farm Bureau and County 4-H Club committee. Served on bank, church and livestock boards and as Republican precinct and Congressional committeeman. Now president of Southeast Iowa Hereford Association and Henry County Taxpayers' Association. Member of Farm Bureau, American and American Polled Hereford Associations, National Livestock Feeders and Iowa Taxpayers Associations. Methodist. Served in the 60th, 60th Extra, 61st and 62nd General Assemblies.
