ALFRED P. BREITBACH

Mr. Speaker: Your committee, appointed to prepare a suitable resolution commemorating the life, character, and public service of the late Honorable Alfred P. Breitbach, Sr., begs leave to submit the following memorial:

Alfred P. Breitbach, Sr., was born in Balltown, Iowa on April 26, 1897, the son of Peter P. and Anna Breitbach. In 1924 he married Anna Rettenmeier and together they raised three daughters and two sons.

A Catholic, Mr. Breitbach attended St. Francis School at Balltown and Iowa State University at Ames.

Mr. Breitbach served as Dairy Herd Improvement Association Supervisor for 33 years. He was Fieldman for Dubuque-Delaware Association for 2½ years prior to his retirement.

Active in the community throughout his lifetime, Mr. Breitbach served on the Farley School Board for 3 years. He was a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus, Farley American Legion, the 40 et 8, and the Farley Commercial Club. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the United States Navy.

A Democrat, Mr. Breitbach represented portions of Dubuque County. He won election to three terms in the legislature, serving in the Sixtieth, Sixty-first, and Sixty-second General Assemblies.

Mr. Breitbach died on January 21, 1981, and is survived by his wife, two sons, Alfred Jr. of Des Moines and Lyle of Neponset, Illinois; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Rita) Burd of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mrs. Russell (Darlene) Curley of Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Eldon (Mary) Waechter of Dyersville, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Victor of Balltown, Iowa, and Clarence of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Don (Lorene) Herron of Bradenton, Florida.

Therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of Iowa, That in the passing of the Honorable Alfred P. Breitbach, Sr., the State has lost an honored citizen and a faithful and useful public servant, and the House by this Resolution would express its appreciation of his services.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House, and that the Chief Clerk be directed to forward an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.
