Muscatine County
Muscatine Louisa and Muscatine Counties Democrat. Born July 23, 1905, at Muscatine, Iowa. Graduated from Muscatine High School. Attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport. Married Dorothy C. Boland of Muscatine, July 14, 1931. Five children: Jerome, 32, practicing attorney in Iowa City; Richard, 26, a medical student at the State University of Iowa; Thomas, 24, getting his master's degree at the State University of Iowa; Kathleen, 22, in Dental Hygiene School at State University of Iowa; Michael, 20, employed by Alcoa. For 30 years Mr. Conway served as agent for the Railway Express Agency at Muscatine. Member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. Having served as an alderman for the city of Muscatine for more than five years, he was completing his third two-year term as mayor of Muscatine, when appointed to the board of control on March 16, 1961, by Governor Norman Erbe. Served approximately two and one-half years. Received Good Government Award from Muscatine Chamber of Commerce in 1955. Serving first term.
