Married Louise Burchett in 1937. Father of two children, Nancy and Stewart. Owns and operates a 240-acre farm in Bloomington Township, Decatur County. Member of the Baptist Church at Mount Ayr, Iowa. Served as member of the 57th, 58th, 59th General Assemblies as a representative from Decatur County. Now serving first session in the senate.
